    Literature Review: The Triangle Shirtwaist Company Fire             The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire of March 25, 1911, was a tragic event in the early twentiethcentury that killed 146 men, women, and girls in New York City. A fire broke out on the eighth floor of the Asch building, one of the floors where the Triangle Company operated, and due to locked doors, lack of fire escapes, and only one functional elevator, the workers inside were trapped with many jumping to their deaths to avoid the flames. With so many deadly incidents, the United States went through a “Progressive” era of change in hope to promote safety precautions, along with other social issues; but how progressive was it? Disasters such as the Chicago Iroquois Theater fire and the New York Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire sparked protests and demands for change.     Primary Source Analysis

    Dorgan, Thomas Aloysius. “This is One of a Hundred Murdered.” Cartoon, The New York  Journal, 1911.   This primary source is an editorial cartoon published after the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire based on the illustrations and captions. The factory fire killed over a hundred women working in the factory. This cartoon depicts a woman lying on the ground surrounded by references to the factory fire. Smoldering debris surrounds her, and in the back, there is a trash bin and lit cigarette on the ground representing how the fire was ignited. There is also a sign that reads “Operators Wanted.
